Lawrence Joel Block was born in New York City, New York, the son of Sonia (née Kutcher), a travel agent, and Harold Block, who worked in the garment industry. He had a brother, Kenneth. In 196...4, he graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Rhode Island College of Arts and Sciences. Block appeared on Sesame Street as Tom, who worked at Hooper's Store. Block also had a brief appearances in the films Slap Shot (1977) and Don't Say a Word (2001), alongside Michael Douglas and Brittany Murphy, as well as Martin Scorcese's After Hours (1985)..
